Rare Mod 3

The thirst for original mod iconography, history and music has never been greater, in response Acid Jazz Records prepare for the release of the third installment of the very excellent RARE MOD series, out on Monday 21st Feb.

Volume 3 see's the best collection yet – some of the finest underground mod, R&B and beat bands of the sixties, all digging out those unreleased acetates from on top of wardrobes, suitcases in the attic and in some cases, unheard studio master-tapes.

There are some familiar names like The Creation with an alternate take of Life Is Just Beginning and John’s Children’s Desdemona, featuring previously unheard Marc Bolan vocals. A young Peter Frampton makes an appearance with his group The Preachers, Gary Brooker, later of Procul Harum also features.

British R&B outfit Sean Buckley & The Breadcrumbs provide two tight dance floor numbers. A soul classic is covered expertly by Kenny Bernard & The Wranglers, who boasted a young David Bowie on saxophone as part of their early line-up.

The Nocturnes, a psych favorite from Rare Mod 2, appear again plus some other garage highlights from The Iveys, Goldie & The Gingerbreads and The Montanas.

The stand out track, in my opinion, is the Garage Psych monster by Dave & The Diamonds, Think About Love, up there with anything on the original Sugarlumps or Nuggets compilations.  TUNE !
